So you have decided to look for a new job or perhaps you are just putting your feelers out, whichever it is here are a few tips that might just help you secure that hot new opportunity!
If you are sending your application by email – be mindful about your email address. You might think it is funny, quirky or staunch but it leaves an impression with the recipient and they might not share your view. It may pay to change your email address whilst you are job seeking or set up an address just for job applications. jacquib@hotmail.com sounds a lot better than crazynoodlehead or yobrother@hotmail.com
It’s the mobile age and that means everyone is more accessible. If you put your mobile phone number on your CV be prepared to take calls from prospective employers and answer your phone appropriately. Think about the message you have left to greet your callers. “What’s up? Leave a message” isn’t ideal and doesn’t necessarily leave the best impression. Consider changing your message to something simple but professional.
Make sure that you check your messages regularly even if this means you need to purchase extra credit. If a prospective employer calls you about an interview and you don’t call back you could be costing yourself a lot more than a $10 top up card.
Little points but critical in making the right first impression. Remember you want to be memorable for the right reasons!
